EVR , popularly known as Periyar,which Tamil means the Elder, is being credited with many Reforms like bringing in, Widows’ Remarriage Act, Abolition of Caste, Forerunner of Feminism,Who fought for Tamils Rights and one who fought for the Rights of the downtrodden.
I have in my last article how EVR wrote to Mohammad Ali Jinnah that Pakistan is not Possible without Dravidasthan and that he was worried that the effort by Rajaji to bring about a solution to Hindu Muslim issue.
He also stated in the letter to Jinnah,which I have published in my last article that the Aryans would block the move to bring amity between Hindu and Muslims.
Now the offshoot of DK of EVR,DMK and a host of others have been propagating the issues mentioned above have been resolved to a great extent by EVR extent and the self styled Dravidian parties are using this to garner votes and they have been in power in Tamilnadu for the past fifty to sixty years. I also refer to AIADMK as well despite Jayalalitha having been at the helm of the party for quite long.
One of the achievements of EVR, according to EVR followers is that he fought for Widows Remarriage and he bri the Widows Remarriage Act!😃
The Widows Remarriage Act was passed in 1856 ,thanks to the efforts of Easwar Chandra Vidyasagar from Bengal.

Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was the most prominent campaigner. He petitioned the Legislative council,but there was a counter petition against the proposal with nearly four times more signatures by Radhakanta Deb and the Dharma Sabha.But Lord Dalhousie personally finalised the bill despite the opposition and it being considered a flagrant breach of Hindu customs as prevalent..
