“Al-Libi, who had been wanted by the U.S. for more than a decade for his alleged role in the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, was spirited from his Delta Force captors eventually to a Navy ship in the Mediterranean where he was believed to be questioned by the U.S. government’s High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group.

Al-Libi was then brought to New York to face terrorism-related charges. He has pleaded not guilty. Al-Libi’s attorney, Bernard Kleinman, told The Washington Post his client never swore allegiance to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and was not involved in the embassy attacks.

The former special operations soldier who spoke to ABC News, who has been on similar “snatch” missions, said that the October operation was likely carried out by an eight- to ten-man team. Another source with knowledge of the operation said the men were disguised to appear like locals.

Denial Of ‘Climate Change’ Will Not Be Published

I have often blogged on the controversy surrounding Environment change, Green House Effect and Global Warming.

There have been Scientific papers denying the Climate Change’

A Scientist,Nobel Laureate, resigned from a Premier Institution because the Paper denying Climate change was refused to be Published.

I have written the fact many NGOs exist by the people’s fear of Climate Change and it is a Huge Industry, raking in enormous profits for the NGOs.

Now the Media, Los Angeles Times’ has joined the fray by refusing to publish letters that deny Climate Change.

A piece this weekend debunking the claim that Congress and the president are exempted from Obamacare has drawn a harsh reaction from some readers and conservative bloggers. But their umbrage wasn’t with the piece’s explanation of why letters making this claim do not get published.

Rather, they were upset by the statement that letters “[saying] there’s no sign humans have caused climate change” do not get printed. Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters blogged about it over the weekend:

“It’s one thing for a news outlet to advance the as yet unproven theory of anthropogenic global warming; it’s quite another to admit that you won’t publish views that oppose it.

“As amazing as it may seem, that’s exactly what the Los Angeles Times did Saturday in an article by editorial writerJon Healey….

“So letters to the editor ‘that say there’s no sign humans have caused climate change … do not get printed.’

“That’s quite a statement coming from an editorial writer not named Al Gore.”

The protagonists of Climate Change picked this up and started,

The Los Angeles Times recently announced that they are refusing to publish letters that deny climate change. Their reasoning is simple: climate denial contradicts basic science, and journalists should not print factually inaccurate information. This is a huge opportunity to demand that other mainstream newspapers follow the L.A. Times’ lead and refuse to publish climate misinformation, too.

Sign the petition below to tell the editors of The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal: our country’s most respected newspapers should refuse to print letters that deny basic science. ‘

The fallacy here is there for every one to see.

Deny Climate Change.
ON Climate Change, LA Times. And those scientists have provided ample evidence that human activity is indeed linked to climate change. Just last month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — a body made up of the world’s top climate scientists — said it was 95% certain that we fossil-fuel-burning humans are driving global warming. The debate right now isn’t whether this evidence exists (clearly, it does) but what this evidence means for us.
Simply put, I do my best to keep errors of fact off the letters page; when one does run, a correction is published. Saying “there’s no sign humans have caused climate change” is not stating an opinion, it’s asserting a factual inaccuracy.

There have been Scientific papers denying the Climate Change.’

The fallacy here is there for every one to see.

It is not the ordinary mortals like you and me who deny Climate Change, but Scientists!

And one has to remember that Science is not Fallible, in fact it is more Fallible than anything else(read my posts on this under ‘Science’)

Read the following:

The Climate change and Green House Gases evoke a lot of controversy.

On the one hand a  group claims the world is becoming warmer and we are rushing into disaster because of green house Effects  the other Group claims that the data on Climate change is debatable , neutral scientific papers are not allowed to do the rounds and that Scientists advocating greenhouse Effects  do not allow external verification of their Data.

http://act.forecastthefacts.org/sign/tell_newspapers_stop_publishing_climate_denial/?akid=238.29679.Jx5lpt&rd=1&t=3

“Dangerous manmade global warming” has become the most systematic, massive, costly fraud ever perpetrated. This is a harsh judgment, but the mounting evidence is undeniable.

As climate analyst Anthony Watts points out, after a very modest rise over 20 years, Earth’s average temperature hasn’t increased in 17 years, even as plant-fertilizing carbon-dioxide levels climbed to nearly 400 parts per million, still a minuscule 0.04 percent of the atmosphere.

The eight years since a Category 3 hurricane hit the United States marks the longest such period since 1900, he notes. Tornado frequency is the lowest on record. Droughts are shorter and less extreme than during the Dust Bowl and 1950s.

Arctic sea ice is back to normal, following the coldest summer in decades. Antarctic ice is at a record high. Sea levels continue to rise at a meager rate of 4 to 8 inches per century. Four of the five snowiest Northern Hemisphere winters in the last half-century have occurred since 2008. This year has brought the fewest U.S. forest fires in a decade and ranks second-lowest in acres burned.

Ignoring these facts, President Obama continues to claim “dangerous” carbon-dioxide emissions are causing “unprecedented” global warming, “more extreme” hurricanes, more wildfires, and rising seas that “threaten” coastal communities. His Environmental Protection Agency just proposed stringent job-killing carbon-dioxide regulations for coal-fired power plants and has more rules in the hopper — at a time when the economy is already turning full-time positions into part-time jobs and welfare.

As they prepared their latest scary report, U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change scientists, bureaucrats and eco-activists devised ways to cover up the “bad” news. Among other things, they deleted all references to the 17-year temperature standstill from the “summary for policymakers.” They are editing the science to reflect the politics.

Chairman Rajendra Pachauri insists that there is “definitely an increase in our belief” that humans are “responsible for climate change” and there is “no slowdown” in planetary temperature increases. The IPCC says it still has “very high confidence” that its faulty models correctly represent carbon-dioxide effects on planetary temperatures. Student papers, environmentalist press releases and baseless claims about disappearing Himalayan glaciers remain in IPCC reports, falsely presented as “peer-reviewed” studies by credentialed experts.”

Rolling Stone Tsarnaev Photo Row More Photos

The Rolling Stone magazine’s cover Photograph and the write -up that “how a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam, and became a monster created a stir alleging that it glamorizes Terrorism.

But the earlier photos of Tsarnaev by Rolling Stones were picked up by other magazines and Electronic media as well

They also published live coverage of the manhunt.

I had also published a post on this subject.

There is a thin line separating glamorization of a terrorist and factual reporting.

How one takes the words used in a story is left for the individual.

How one takes the words used in a story is left for the individual.

If mere reporting is done, no body would read it,

However the part hinting that he was a nice boy and his going astray was because of his parents, Family is unfounded and misleading.

In the same vein one can justify every criminal action by portraying the accused sympathetically .

Media must have the sagacity to draw a line between a gripping story and innuendo and assumptions.

The Photograph of the Boston Bomber , published by Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone Cover of Dzhokar Tsarnaev
The cover, which features a self-taken portrait of Tsarnaev sporting shaggy hair and a goatee, identifies him simply as “The Bomber,” while promising to explain “how a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam, and became a monster.” The cover story itself was reported over the course of two months by Rolling Stone contributing editor Janet Reitman..

A comment .

New Rolling Stone cover turns the Boston bomber into Jim Morrison.:

The Washington Post‘s Erik Wemple offered a dissenting view to all of the outrage:

*This is good journalism, as the photo depicts the same Dzhokhar Tsarnaev that The Post and the New York Times — and others — depicted in deeply reported pieces. That is, a regular, good guy with friends, interests and activities — a “joker,” even.*Showing this alleged bomber in his full humanity makes him appear even more menacing.

This is not the first time Rolling Stone has featured a notorious figure on its cover in what might be described as a “glamorous” posture. As The Awl’s Choire Sicha pointed out on Twitter, the magazine featured a stoic-looking Charles Manson on its cover in June, 1970.

To add spice to this, Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Sean Murphy, a tactical photographer, released never-before-seen photos of Tsarnaev being taken into custody.

The Officer as promptly dismissed, some resigned.

Tsarnaev Photo released by a Police sergeant.
A Massachusetts State Police trooper furious about Rolling Stone magazine’s rock-star portrayal of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev released his own photos showing the alleged terrorist’s capture — and was promptly suspended.
Sgt. Sean Murphy provided photos to Boston Magazine on Thursday, to show what he characterized as the suspect’s more genuine personality — evil — rather than the celebrity shot published on Rolling Stone’s cover, Fox News reported.

The Washington Post obtained  The Classified Slides of  the NSA, which details the mode of collecting information..

This is in addition to the information that American technology companies secretly provide to the National Security Agency. This issue is rocking the US, courtesy Snowden.

But the modes described are yet to be addressed..

Story:

One is PRISM, the NSA program that collects information from technology companies, which was first revealed in reports by the Post and Britain’s Guardian newspaper last month. The slide also shows a separate category labeled “Upstream,” described as accessing “communications on fiber cables and infrastructure as data flows past.”..

The interaction between Upstream and PRISM — which could be considered “downstream” collection because the data are already processed by tech companies — is not entirely clear from the slide. In addition, its description of PRISM as “collection directly from the servers” of technology giants such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook has been disputed by many of the companies involved. (They say access to user data is legal and limited.)

However PRISM works, the NSA slide makes clear that the two collection methods operate in parallel, instructing analysts that “You Should Use Both.” Arrows point to both “Upstream” and “PRISM.”

A Brazilian newspaper on Tuesday published an article it said is based on documents provided by the former American contractor Edward Snowden asserting that the United States has been collecting data on telephone calls and e-mails from several countries in Latin America, including important allies such as Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The paper, O Globo, based in Rio de Janeirosays the documents show the National Security Agency amassed military and security data on countries such as Venezuela, an American adversary that has been accused of aiding Colombia’s Marxist rebels and maintaining close ties with Iran. But the documents also show that the agency carried out surveillance operations to unearth inside commercial information on the oil industry in Venezuela and the energy sector in Mexico, which is under state control and essentially closed to foreign investment.

India, Sexual Abuse Of Children Report

While we have been concentrating on the rape of Adult women in India and had an Ordinance passed by The President on Rape, the silent malaise is the sexual abuse of the Child.

Sexual Abuse of the Child, India

Two out of every three children in India are physically abused, according to a landmark government study.

Commissioned by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the study says 53% of the surveyed children reported one or more forms of sexual abuse.

This is the first time the government has done such an exhaustive survey on the controversial issue of child abuse.

Abuse of children, particularly sexual abuse, is rarely admitted in India and activists have welcomed the study.(BBC 9 April 2007)

Now Human Rights Watch on this issue.

Report;

Child sexual abuse is disturbingly common in homes, schools, and residential care facilities inIndia. A government-appointed committee set up after the New Delhi attack to recommend legal and policy reform has found that child protection schemes “have clearly failed to achieve their avowed objective.”

The 82-page report, “Breaking the Silence: Child Sexual Abuse in India,” examines how current government responses are falling short, both in protecting children from sexual abuse and treating victims. Many children are effectively mistreated a second time by traumatic medical examinations and by police and other authorities who do not want to hear or believe their accounts. Government efforts to tackle the problem, including new legislation to protect children from sexual abuse, will also fail unless protection mechanisms are properly implemented and the justice system reformed to ensure that abuse is reported and fully prosecuted, Human Rights Watch said..

Fewer Female Police Personnel.

True

Even the quality of women Police available is  disheartening.

I have found the women Police to be more heartless than a Policeman in terms of character and humane approach to family issues brought into Police Stations.

These women Police ensure that they get a good bribe to settle the issue even if what is agreed upon is totally unjustifiable.

Lockup rapes are most common.

Delhi Gang Rape Disturbing Facts Images Media Coverage

“A protester with hands coloured in fake blood holds a candle during a protest campaign by Youth Congress against the gang rape of the student.

A protester ,on such a solemn occasion, spends time to have artificial blood applied to her hands and look at her face-clear question of posing!

Some images which show the agitators indulging in violence, seem to be well organised.

Some thing is not right.

Now that Nirbhaya, who was gang raped and died subsequently. it is time to reflect on some disturbing facts.

New York Times and The Washington Post , have in addition to news coverage, have blogs on the incident as well.

NYT has at least 10  News articles showing up in Google search on the subject.”

In addition analysis like  Leaders’ Response Magnifies Outrage in India Rape Case

The Washington Post has a very detailed Blog and has about  5 in the Google first page result.

This is apart from a very wide coverage of the rape.

These are ,apart from the coverage of the Agitation,Treatment at Singapore, and death.

There were also  excessive coverage  over the remarks of Abhijit Mukeherji, and some other leaders on the agitation on television channels in India.

The coverage, in my view, by the Foreign Media, is surprising for the incident as the coverage, there has been in similar previous cases.

But such an ind depth coverage and to the extent of spending too much space ont he issue, while they had many other top stories to cover?

The coverage by the UK is equally exhaustive.

Look at some of the images from the Mail UK.

I am reproducing one here.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2254504/Indian-gang-rape-victim-dies-Singapore-hospital.html

The target of the protesters’ anger seems to be India’s archaic sexual violence laws and a culture of impunity for offenders, with even authorities demonstrating a blase attitude toward rape. In the wake of the Dec. 16 incident, officials have been criticized for belittling rape victims, and the son of India’s president apologized after calling the protesters “highly dented and painted” women, who go “from discos to demonstrations,” the AP reported.

Protesters have called for far worse fates for India’s rapists than online exposure — including execution and chemical castration. Some argue that the public database is far from an effective remedy for the epidemic of violence. Writing in First Post,  says the idea seems like the move of a government grasping for a quick fix to appease popular fury:

It’s always worrisome when policies are cooked up in an overheated chamber of  righteous popular outrage. This proposed database seems prompted less by a concern for public safety than a belated attempt by a flatfooted government to give the appearance of swift action. If we cannot hang them in the public square, let’s hang them in a public database at least.

If groups of people are capable of gang-raping innocent women, he argues, they might be just as likely to target even suspect rapists for vigilante justice, as they already have following the gang-rape incident:

Soon after the Delhi gangrape, five men in a Jharkhand village,  all “suspected eve teasers” were beaten to death by an angry mob.
