Environment Definition Study In The Vedas Hinduism

Vedas, the unwritten Scripture of The Hindus, do not stop with dealing the theory of God ,Reality.

Though it calls the day-to-day knowledge as transient and not enough to elevate the Human beings, it does not ridicule the Sciences or the practical Life.

Shanti mantra
Environment and Vedas Shanthi Mantra

Unto the Heaven be Peace, Unto the Sky and the Earth be Peace,
Peace be unto the Water, Unto the Herbs and Trees be Peace,
Unto all the Gods be Peace, Unto Brahma and unto All be Peace.
And may We realize that Peace.
Om Peace Peace Peace”

It deals with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,Astronomy,Astrophysics,Metallurgy,Nano Technology,Biology,Molecular Biology and the like, it deals

with Environment studies as a Science.

The Vedas use the term ‘Paryavarana’ to indicate the Environment.

The Atharva Veda uses the terms ‘Vritavrita, Abhivarah,Avritah,Parivrita’

The Atharva Veda describes /defines Environment thus. ‘Chandamsi’

‘Wise utilize three elements variously which are varied, visible and
full of qualities. These are water, air and plants or herbs. They exist in
the world from the very beginning. They are called as Chandansi
meaning ‘coverings available everywhere.’

The Environment listed as Five Essentials are,

Earth,Water,Fire,Air and Ether,

These are further classified and based on their qualities and functions.

There are five senses of perception – hearing, touch, sight, taste and smell, and there are the five tanmatras corresponding to the five sense perceptions and five sense-organs.

The tanmatras combine and re-combine in different ways to produce the gross elements – earth, water, fire, air and ether, which make up the gross universe perceived by the senses

The senses play their part by coming into contact with the objects, and carry impressions of them to the manas which receives and arranges them into a precept.

The Elements in The Universe are the same as our Body.

They are related to the Universe and are comprehended by these Tanmatras through the sense organs, with the Five Elements of Nature .

Nature is maintaining a status of balance between and among these constituents or elements and living creatures as well as these Elements.

Any slight disturbance will result in upsetting Nature,

This natural order of things, is called ‘Rta’, meaning “Natural order of things,Rhythm’.

The Taittriya declares in the Shanthi Mantra, which is to be recited at the conclusion of every worship.

Sathyam Vathishyami, Rtam Vatishyaami,

I follow the Truth,

I follow the Rta, the Natural order of Things.

Thachcham yors vrunee mahe,

Gyaathum yagyaayaa…

May the four legged animals be Happy,

May the two legged (Man)  be Happy!

May water each the roots of the Trees’\

In these hymns we find
prayers for certain natural elements such as air, water, earth,
sun, rain, dawn etc. The glorious brightness of the sun, the blaze
of the sacrificial fire, the sweep of the rain-storm across the skies,
the recurrence of the dawn, the steady currents of the winds, the
violence of the tropical storm and other such natural energies,
fundamental activities or aspects are glorified and personified
as divinities (Devata). The interaction with nature resulted in
appreciation and prayer but, indeed, after a good deal of
observation. Attributes assigned to deities fit in their natural forms
and activities, as Soma is green, fire is bright, air is fast moving
and sun is dispenser of darkness. The characteristics of these
forces described in the verses prove that Vedic seers were masters
of natural science.
In Vedic view, this world consists of Agni i.e., fire or heat and
Soma i.e. water.
12 Sun (Surya) is the soul of all which is moving
and also of which is not moving.13 Indra is most powerful god
who kills Vritra, the symbol of cloud to free waters. Vritra means
one who covers and is derived from the root vri, to cover. R.R.M.
Roy opines that the main force of expansion in the Vedic
cosmology is Indra, and his chief adversary, the main force of
contraction, is Vritra.
14 Maruts are Indra’s associates. Vedic seers
pray boldly to these natural forces and aspects for bestowing
plenty and prosperity on them. Aditi is praised as Devamata,
the mother of all natural energies and she symbolizes the Nature.
A famous geologist S.R.N. Murthy has written on the earth
sciences in the Vedas. He has somehow a different opinion about
Vedic gods and hence states, ‘the natural geological aspects have
been described as Indra, Agni, Vayu, Varun, Usas etc.”

The primary Deity in the Vedas in Agni and it is classified into Thirteen divisions/types.

Agni is innumerable because of its presence in each and every dhatu paramanu (cell) of the body. But, enumeration of the number of Agnis varies in various classical Ayurvedic texts, as shown below

  • Charaka has mentioned about 13 AgnisJatharagni – 1, Bhutagni – 5, Dhatvagni – 7 (Ch.Chi.15/38).[13]
  • According to Acharya Sushruta, five types of Agnis are illustrated, viz. Pachakagni, Ranjakagni, Alochakagni, Sadhakagni and Bhrajakagni. However, there is an indirect reference of fiveBhutagnis underlying in the brief description made to the transformation of food stuff. (Sh.Su.21/10.)[14]
  • Vagbhata has described different types Agni, viz. – Bhutagnis – 5,– Dhatvagnis – 7, –Dhoshagni – 3 and– Malagni – 3.
  • Sharangadhara has recognized five pittas only (Pachak, Bhrajak, Ranjak, Alochaka andSadhak) (Sha.Sa.Pu.Kh.-5/32).[15]
  • Bhavamishra has followed Acharya Charaka and Vagbhata (Bh.Pu.Kh.-3/169,180).[16]

Agni has been divided into 13 types according to the function and site of action. These are:

  1. Jatharagni – one Agni present in the stomach and duodenum.
  2. Bhutagni – five Agni from five basic elements.
  3. Dhatwagni – seven Agni present, one in each of the seven dhatus.

Five Types.

1.Rain Water.(Divyah)

2.Natural Spring(Sravanti)

3.Wells and Canals(Kantirmah)

4.Lakes (Svayamja)

5.Rivers (Samudraja)

The information is in abundance.

Denial Of ‘Climate Change’ Will Not Be Published

I have often blogged on the controversy surrounding Environment change, Green House Effect and Global Warming.

Deny Climate Change.
ON Climate Change, LA Times. And those scientists have provided ample evidence that human activity is indeed linked to climate change. Just last month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — a body made up of the world’s top climate scientists — said it was 95% certain that we fossil-fuel-burning humans are driving global warming. The debate right now isn’t whether this evidence exists (clearly, it does) but what this evidence means for us.
Simply put, I do my best to keep errors of fact off the letters page; when one does run, a correction is published. Saying “there’s no sign humans have caused climate change” is not stating an opinion, it’s asserting a factual inaccuracy.

There have been Scientific papers denying the Climate Change.’

A Scientist,Nobel Laureate, resigned from a Premier Institution  because the Paper denying Climate change was refused to be Published.

I have written the fact many NGOs exist by the people’s fear of Climate Change and it is a Huge Industry, raking in enormous profits for the NGOs.

Now the Media, Los Angeles Times‘ has joined the fray by refusing to publish letters that deny Climate Change.

A piece this weekend debunking the claim that Congress and the president are exempted from Obamacare has drawn a harsh reaction from some readers and conservative bloggers. But their umbrage wasn’t with the piece’s explanation of why letters making this claim do not get published.

Rather, they were upset by the statement that letters “[saying] there’s no sign humans have caused climate change” do not get printed. Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters blogged about it over the weekend:

“It’s one thing for a news outlet to advance the as yet unproven theory of anthropogenic global warming; it’s quite another to admit that you won’t publish views that oppose it.

“As amazing as it may seem, that’s exactly what the Los Angeles Times did Saturday in an article by editorial writerJon Healey….

“So letters to the editor ‘that say there’s no sign humans have caused climate change … do not get printed.’

“That’s quite a statement coming from an editorial writer not named Al Gore.”

The protagonists of Climate Change picked this up and started,

The Los Angeles Times recently announced that they are refusing to publish letters that deny climate change. Their reasoning is simple: climate denial contradicts basic science, and journalists should not print factually inaccurate information. This is a huge opportunity to demand that other mainstream newspapers follow the L.A. Times‘ lead and refuse to publish climate misinformation, too.

Sign the petition below to tell the editors of The New York TimesThe Washington PostUSA Today, and The Wall Street Journal: our country’s most respected newspapers should refuse to print letters that deny basic science. ‘

The fallacy here is there for every one to see.

It is not the ordinary mortals like you and me who deny Climate Change, but Scientists!

And one has to remember that Science is not Fallible, in fact it is more Fallible than anything else(read my posts on this under ‘Science’)

Read the following:

The Climate change and Green House Gases evoke a lot of controversy.

On the one hand a  group claims the world is becoming warmer and we are rushing into disaster because of green house Effects  the other Group claims that the data on Climate change is debatable , neutral scientific papers are not allowed to do the rounds and that Scientists advocating greenhouse Effects  do not allow external verification of their Data.

I belong to the minority who believes  that climate change is a fraud perpetrated on the gullible, solely with the intention of funding the NGO Industry.”

“Dangerous manmade global warming” has become the most systematic, massive, costly fraud ever perpetrated. This is a harsh judgment, but the mounting evidence is undeniable.

As climate analyst Anthony Watts points out, after a very modest rise over 20 years, Earth’s average temperature hasn’t increased in 17 years, even as plant-fertilizing carbon-dioxide levels climbed to nearly 400 parts per million, still a minuscule 0.04 percent of the atmosphere.

The eight years since a Category 3 hurricane hit the United States marks the longest such period since 1900, he notes. Tornado frequency is the lowest on record. Droughts are shorter and less extreme than during the Dust Bowl and 1950s.

Arctic sea ice is back to normal, following the coldest summer in decades. Antarctic ice is at a record high. Sea levels continue to rise at a meager rate of 4 to 8 inches per century. Four of the five snowiest Northern Hemisphere winters in the last half-century have occurred since 2008. This year has brought the fewest U.S. forest fires in a decade and ranks second-lowest in acres burned.

Ignoring these facts, President Obama continues to claim “dangerous” carbon-dioxide emissions are causing “unprecedented” global warming, “more extreme” hurricanes, more wildfires, and rising seas that “threaten” coastal communities. His Environmental Protection Agency just proposed stringent job-killing carbon-dioxide regulations for coal-fired power plants and has more rules in the hopper — at a time when the economy is already turning full-time positions into part-time jobs and welfare.

As they prepared their latest scary report, U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change scientists, bureaucrats and eco-activists devised ways to cover up the “bad” news. Among other things, they deleted all references to the 17-year temperature standstill from the “summary for policymakers.” They are editing the science to reflect the politics.

Chairman Rajendra Pachauri insists that there is “definitely an increase in our belief” that humans are “responsible for climate change” and there is “no slowdown” in planetary temperature increases. The IPCC says it still has “very high confidence” that its faulty models correctly represent carbon-dioxide effects on planetary temperatures. Student papers, environmentalist press releases and baseless claims about disappearing Himalayan glaciers remain in IPCC reports, falsely presented as “peer-reviewed” studies by credentialed experts.”

Anti Climate Policies Secret Funding, What’s Wrong

The Climate change and Green House Gases evoke a lot of controversy.

On the one hand a  group claims the world is becoming warmer and we are rushing into disaster because of green house Effects  the other Group claims that the data on Climate change is debatable , neutral scientific papers are not allowed to do the rounds and that Scientists advocating greenhouse Effects  do not allow external verification of their Data.

I belong to the minority who believes  that climate change is a fraud perpetrated on the gullible, solely with the intention of funding the NGO Industry.

Recent news item that the Earth,in fact, is inching towards an Ice Age and the fact that the Data by the pro Green Houses are inaccurate and doctored.

Now Documents released by The Guardian Uk indicate that the anti Green House Lobby has secret funds to thwart Governmental Policy on Green House effects.

If one does not listen to reason, what else can one do?

My complaint is that they  need not have been  secretive in raising funds for it attributes criminality and nefarious intentions while it is not.

(that is raising funds to fight democratically)

The spectacular exposé by the Guardian of the hidden funding network for US climate change sceptics reveals a set-up that also exists in the UK, where wealthy rightwing donors secretly finance a highly professional campaign against policies to reduce greenhouse gases.

The main lobby group for suchsceptics in the UK is the Global Warming Policy Foundation, established by Lord Lawson, a Conservative peer. The foundation was officially launched with an article by Lawson in the Times on 22 November 2009, just three days after emails that had been hacked from the University of East Anglia were posted on the web in a bid to scupper the United Nations climate change negotiations in Copenhagen that December.

Lawson used the article to accuse climate scientists of “manipulating” records of global temperature and of refusing external scrutiny of their raw data, while also calling for a “an open and reasoned debate” about domestic and international climate change policies.

But despite his apparent enthusiasm for greater transparency by climate researchers, Lawson has been less than forthcoming about how the foundation is funded. According to its latest annual accounts, the foundation received £12,161 from membership fees in the year ending 31 July 2012.

As the annual membership fee is “at least £100”, it appears that the foundation has 120 members at most.

The identity of the donors is shrouded in secrecy. The foundation’s website states that it is “funded overwhelmingly by voluntary donations from a number of private individuals and charitable trusts”, and that it “does not accept gifts from either energy companies or anyone with a significant interest in an energy company”.

Lord Lawson has consistently refused to disclose the name of the donors. When interviewed by BBC Radio 4 last October, he said that he relied on his friends who “tend to be richer than the average person and much more intelligent than the average person”.

However, membership fees are only a minor source of revenue for the foundation. Accounts show that it has received more than £1m in donations over the past three years.

The Guardian managed to uncover evidence last March that one of the foundation’s secret donors is Michael Hintze, a wealthy businessman who also gives large sums to the Conservative party.

So what does Lord Lawson do with all this money? Although the foundation is registered as an educational charity, its primary purpose seems to be to campaign against policies to tackle climate change by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.

After the UK general election in May 2010, the foundation started to lobby the new Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition governmentto stop subsidies for alternatives to fossil fuels and to abandon the UK’s emissions reductions targets.

The foundation has also paid for the publication and dissemination of pamphlets by prominent climate change sceptics. For instance, it has distributed a leaflet extolling the virtues of shale gas by Matt Ridley, the former chairman of Northern Rock who earlier this month was voted into the House of Lords by 24 Conservative hereditary peers. And last October, the foundation issued a pamphlet by Conservative MP Peter Lilley which attacked the 2006 review of the economics of climate changecarried out by Prof Lord Stern, currently chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The foundation’s lobbying activities are also assisted by the services of Bell Pottinger, headed by Margaret Thatcher’s favourite advertising expert, Tim Bell. A register maintained by the Public Relations Consultants Association shows that the foundation was a client of Bell Pottinger between December 2010 and February 2011.

The public relations company has attracted controversy because of its claims of influence over senior members of the government. In December 2011, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism uncovered evidence that senior executives of Bell Pottinger boast of their contacts with the prime minister and the chancellor.

Homes, Built By Bottles!

While people have been talking of Building Homes for the Poor and Government spending Crores on this subject,a Woman in Bolivia has been building Homes from Plastic bottles, that too  used and discarded ones!

But what about Plastic being non Eco friendly?

Ingrid Vaca Diez is on a mission to build better homes for the poor.

With few funds and little support, she uses the only resource she can find in abundance – empty plastic bottles.

Her own life in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, is one of relative comfort but she is shocked by the rising level of poverty she sees around her.

Though completely self-taught, she designs and builds new homes using recycled plastic bottles filled with dirt as the “bricks”. So far, she has built 10 of these homes.

The people she is trying to help are rural, indigenous migrants, often living in single room, dirt floor shacks.

Ingrid picks her projects based on the urgency of a family’s need. It is through her work that we will observe the broader social and economic problems facing the poor in Santa Cruz.

Bolivia remains one of the poorest countries in South America with roughly 50 percent of the population living below the poverty level according to 2010 estimates.Conversely, it is one of the richest countries in South America in terms of natural resources, especially in mining and natural gas reserves. For the poor, housing is one of the most critical issues. This is an especially acute issue as more and more rural residents continue their migration into the major population centres of La Paz and Santa Cruz.

Statistics show that out of the total population of approximately 10 million people, a majority of families live in sub-standard housing conditions in which many structures have no more than a dirt floor.

Air Pollution in China.

Air Pollu.tion,China
The image right above shows extensive haze, low clouds and fog over the region. The brightest areas tend to be clouds or fog, which have a tinge of gray or yellow from the air pollution. Other cloud-free areas have a pall of gray and brown smog that mostly blots out the cities below.

The environmental crisis stems largely from China’s rampant and unique economic growth, with the rapid pace of industrialization, the reliance on coal power and the huge growth in car ownership all playing a role.

A chart by the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) from the European Commission estimates that in 2011 China produced 9.7 million kilotons of carbon dioxide, nearly double the U.S.’ 5.42 million kilotons.

If the Chinese cement industry alone was a country, it would be the sixth biggest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world, producing 820,00 kilotons, according to EDGAR.

While Beijing has made some progress in recent years in controlling emissions within the city limits, whatever happens in all of the neighboring provinces affects the capital.

These provinces — including Tianjin, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Shanxi — are still developing rapidly, with more factories, more power pants, more vehicles and more coal burning, and it’s making the government’s efforts to clean up that much harder.”

“Over the past weekend, poor meteorological conditions contributed to a severe accumulation of air pollution in Beijing and hundreds of other cities in northern and eastern China. The extreme pollution was the worst in recent memory, yielding hundreds of media reports both within China and around the world. In addition, tens of millions took to Twitter and China’s Twitter-like service, Weibo, to post their thoughts and complaints. Unfortunately, such extreme pollution accumulation episodes are common in Beijing. And even when meteorological conditions are good, average pollution levels in Beijing are still unacceptably high. Until China takes critical steps towards reducing emissions, poor average air quality and occasional “crazy bad” episodes will continue.

Vehicles are a critical source to control. Vehicles are typically by far the largest source of human exposure to air pollution in densely packed urban areas. Plus, the contribution of vehicle emissions to air pollution in China is increasing as the population of motor vehicles in Beijing and around China continues to grow rapidly. Implementing stringent controls to mitigate the pollution impacts of China’s motor vehicles must be a key priority in parallel with controlling other sources such as factories and power plants.

Moreover, such action needs to take place at the national level. Because vehicles (especially trucks and long-distance buses) travel in and out of cities, only stringent national-level regulations can ensure that all vehicles are controlled effectively no matter where they travel. In recent years, Beijing has made a series of impressive steps towards controlling pollution within its own boundaries (e.g. the most stringent vehicle standards in the country, the cleanest fuel quality standards in the countryscrapping >500,000 old polluting vehicles over the past two years, and more). However, the city still struggles to improve air quality because perhaps 34%-70% of Beijing’s pollution is regional, coming from dirty vehicles and industrial sources polluting in the surrounding provinces.

(Washington Post)

Short-term actions to control motor vehicle emissions in China. Two simple steps could make a huge and near-term difference in improving air quality in Beijing and throughout China, while simultaneously demonstrating the new Chinese government’s commitment to reducing pollution emissions:

  1. Immediately issue new fuel quality standards with supporting fiscal policies to reduce nationwide diesel sulfur levels to below 10 parts-per-million (ppm). Because high sulfur levels in fuel can poison advanced emission control technologies, improving fuel quality, especially reducing sulfur levels, is a critical prerequisite to introducing more stringent vehicle tailpipe emission standards. In 2011, China’s State Council announced that preferential fiscal policies would be utilized to encourage the supply of higher quality fuels nationwide. However, these fiscal policies have not yet been issued; a new fuel quality standard is stalled in the review phase; and nationwide diesel fuel sulfur levelscontinue to stagnate at unacceptable levels of 350ppm or higher. Resolving the fuel quality issue is a critical step to facilitate continued progress in vehicle emission control in China.
  2. Ensure that the China IV truck and bus emission standards are implemented this year without further delays. China’s next stage nationwide tailpipe emission standard for trucks and buses, called “China IV” (equivalent to “Euro IV“), aims to cut emissions of PM and NOx from diesel vehicles by 30% and 80%, respectively. However, because these vehicles need to be fueled with higher quality fuel which is not yet supplied nationwide, MEP has twice delayed the introduction of these standards across China. The current implementation date is July 1, 2013. In parallel with resolving the fuel quality issue, China should commit to introducing these standards without any additional delays….

India Air Pollution.

Air Pollution,India
Air Pollution Risk India

“The rapid growth in coal use in China and India, where pollution controls are minimal, is adding to local and long-distance pollution. More than 80 percent of Chinese cities in a recent World Bank survey had sulfur dioxide or nitrogen dioxide emissions above the World Health Organization’s threshold.

Scientists have concluded that growing up in a city with polluted air is about as harmful to a person’s health as growing up with a parent who smokes. Although air pollution is concentrated in cities, it can move well beyond them: for example, acidic lakes in Scandinavia have been linked to pollution from factories in the United States. The World Bank projected that on average 1.8 million people would die prematurely each year between 2001 and 2020 because of air pollution.”
