Rajnikanth, The Super Star, a phenomenon is turning 63 on 12 /12/12

There have been many Stars and Superstars.

Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan

Yet the craze and adulation for this humble Conductor from Karnataka is unparalleled.

He may not be good Actor ,not even good-looking with very dark complexion and small eyes.

yet the Man looms large over the others.

An actor who has fan following in Jan,which none else has to the extent of what Rajini has, is a marvel.

But what makes the Man tick?

Is it his love of acting,humility or his clever choice of subjects for his Films or his very uncommon trait of understanding his weakness?

I believe it is a combination of all these.

Yet his humility and the trait of not forgetting his roots and the path he traveled makes him connect to people.

Kamal Hassan whom I happened to know in his younger days(moot point whether he will remember people) is an actor of some substance and has mass following.

Yet it can not match Rajni.

Rajni does not bother about his image , while Kamal does.

Rajni is Humane , Kamal Clever.

Kamal pontificates, Rajni connects.

Rajni lives with us in the Real world while Kamal Hassan orbits in the tinsel world.

Rajni cloaks his Wisdom under the hood of an Ignoramus, Kamal does the opposite.

Kamal speaks what the audience what the audience wants to hear while Rajni communicates with himself in Public.

Rajinikanth (born 12 December 1950 as Shivaji Rao Gaikwad) is an Indian film actor,media personality, and cultural icon.^[2] He made his debut as an actor in the National Film Award–winning Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal (1975), directed by K. Balachander, whom the actor considers his mentor.^[3]

After a brief phase of portraying antagonistic characters in Tamil films, he gradually rose to become an established film actor. Within a few years, he was acclaimed as the superstarof Tamil cinema and continues to hold a matinee idol status in the popular culture of India.^[4] His mannerisms and stylised delivery of dialogue in films contribute to his mass popularity and appeal.^[4] After being paid 26 crore (US$5.9 million) for his role in Sivaji(2007), he became the highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan.^[5][6] He was one of the most influential actors in the film industry due to his overwhelming back-driven influence onpolitics in Tamil Nadu.^[4][7][8]

Rajinikanth has worked in over 150 films across various film industries of India. He has won six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards—four Best Actor Awards and two Special Awards for Best Actor—and a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award. He was bestowed the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honour in 2000. Other than acting, Rajinikanth has also worked as a producer and screenwriter.

Balachander sheds tears in Rajni Function.

The man Rajni never ceases to amaze me.

Whatever Rajnikanth does, his open nature devoid of Guile ,comes to the fore.

His announcement that it does not behove of K.Balachander  to receive a Trophy named after Rajinikanth, Rajni has decided to change the name of the trophy.

Such an inborn humility from one who has scaled unimaginable heights…!

I can think of only Sachin Tendulkar .

Superstar Rajinikanth recently participated at the Annual Celebration of his wife Latha‘s Ashram school.

The actor who came up to the stage only at the final, since he wanted to remain as a guest only.  Later he presented the awards to all who are honored with their respective titles.

But Rajinikanth hesitated for one thing when he was asked to hand over a award in the title ‘Rajinikanth award’ to his mentor K Balachandar.

He stated that ‘I am not deserved to give a award in my name to my guru, so i request that from next year that it should be renamed as K Balachandar Award. The Superstar proved that he still considers K Balachander as his guru with utmost repect.

Later K Balachandar who went emotional with Rajini’s speech stated that ‘ Rajinikanth has always been so respectful towards me and he has proven that once again’.

Compare this with  Karunanidhi‘s habit of instituting trophies after his name and having them distributed by himself with his sycophants,including Vaali and Vairamuthu , eulogizing Karunanidhi  in syrupy prose imagining to be poetry!

Rajni Birth Day Special ,Star- Vijay Video Excerpts- A Review.

Star Vijay Telecast on 11th December 2011 on the occasion of Super Star Rajnikanth‘s birth Day, was by and large up to the Class of Vijay Tv. 

Star Vijay does an enormous amount of research for every one of its shows, be it a popular entertainment or a serious issue.

And they know how to make a popular mix that satisfies every segment.

The programme on Rajni on 11/12/20011 was one such.

It had nearly every thing to satisfy Rajni’s fans.

 It roped in Rajni’s daughter Aiswarya Dhanush to be a Guest and had her narrate the professional and personal side of Rajini.

She did the show with aplomb.

Yet she was very diplomatic on tricky questions like the ones on Rajni’s desire to lead his Fan Club mare vigorously and the love affair of her parents.

The involvement of the Fans who had assembled in a great number had their quota s well.

Think of a woman who reported that she fell unconscious when she heard Rajni was unwell (that too when she was riding a two Wheeler) ,of a Professor who uses Rajni’s Film Dialogues, to motivate the students to translate from Tamil to English,of a middle-aged man who had his Family’s head tonsured… ..all this can not be attributed to film presence alone. 

Some are Blessed with it.

The segment where Bhagyaraj spoke of Rajni(in a programme that followed ) could not hide the fact that Bhagya Raj seems to have only a grudging admiration of Rajni as reveled when he explained about the film ‘Sivappu Manithan,

The jarring note in the entire show was the narration of Rajni’s illness where the participants and the guests sounded as though there were  mouthing Obituary.

This could have been handled with more sensitivity.

Amitabh as usual was crisp and his words seemed to have come from his heart while SRK did a PR job.

Thoroughly enjoyable show.

Rajinikanth Discharged from Singapore Hospital.

Superstar Rajinikanth has “recovered completely” and has been discharged from the Mount Elizabeth Hospital here after being treated for respiratory problems.

“Superstar discharged from hospital. He has recovered completely and taking rest,” his son-in-law, actor Dhanush tweeted.

Rajinikanth, 61, was admitted to the hospital here on May 28 after being flown in from Chennai a day earlier after he was discharged from Sri Ramchandra medical centre where he was undergoing treatment since May 13.

RajiniKanth’s Health.

Super Star Rajnikanth is reported to be suffering from Pulmonary Edema (accumulation of water in Lungs,irregular functioning of the Liver,and Kidney malfunction.

Liver tissue is said to have been tested for infections ,Hepatitis and for Malignancy.

Malignancy seems to have been ruled out.

Slight infection of the Liver and Hepatitis are not ruled out.

Kidney malfunction is being treated with dialysis.

Accumulated water in the Lungs is being drawn out and he is under antibiotics for infection of the lungs.

The problem with Pulmonary Edema is that not all the water from the Lungs can be sucked out, for beyond a certain point if water is sucked out, lungs may collapse.

Care has to be takes to prevent infection.

Considering his age,he is 7 days younger to to me,and his lifestyle, road to recovery will be slow.

Let’s pray for a very decent Human Being called Rajini.

Story:

Actor Rajinikanth, now being treated at a hospital in Singapore, is fine and recovering well, his son-in-law and actor Dhanush said on Tuesday. “He (Rajinikanth) is recovering well. He is doing fine. He is responding well to the treatment,” he told reporters in Singapore.

“Doctors have found out the root cause of his (Rajini’s) trouble. It is something that can be reversed,” Dhanush said.

According to him, the 61-year-old actor is cheerful and is “in a mood to shop. He eats whatever he wants. “We hope he will return (home) in a week or 10 days. If we do not return, that means we are on a holiday (in Singapore),” he said.
