When God Rushes Across The River Chithirai Festival Madurai

In Hinduism on April 24, 2013 at 18:13

Ever heard of God rushing across the River to provide Salvation?

Lord Vishnu Does.

Every year Lord Vishnu,Kallazhakar from  Azahkar Koil, near Madurai,Tamil  Nadu,India, on the Pradhamai(the next Day after Full Moon in the month  of Chiththirai-April end) after adorning himself with the Garland prepared for him by Andal(Srivilliputhur, 48 Km from Madurai) who pined for him  eventually married Him) rushes to Madurai from Azhagar Koil, visits  Suthapas , a Rishi, who was cursed by Sage Dhurvasa for having failed to respect him.

Suthapas was born as a Frog(Mandukam) and was in penance in Madurai.

Dhurvasa had decreed that Suthapas shall obtain salvation  by Lord Vishnu when He crosses the River Vedavathi,Vaigai now.

True to Dharma Lord Vishnu gets down the river  on a horse and enters Madurai.

Lord Vishnu gets down the River, riding a Horse.

Lord Vishnu gets down the River, riding a Horse.

Being the elder brother of Goddess Uma, He is being accorded all the respects due to a brother by Goddess Uma,Meenakshiamman, Madurai.

Temple priests offer the Obeisance on behalf of Goddess Uma.

The festival coincides with Meenakshiamman Thirukkalyanam in Madurai.

Legend has it , as the elder brother of Uma, Lord Vishnu , gave Her away to Lord Siva, Chokkanathar(Godenhued) on this day.

Earlier the marriage was celebrated in Madurai in Maasi (about two months earlier)

King Tirumalai Naicker, to build unity among Saivite and Vaishnavas , merged these two festivals into one and had it celebrated in Chithirai.

Madurai will be brimming with Devotees from the day Lord Vishnu enters the River(அழகர் ஆற்றில் இறங்குதல் ).

Chariots Of Gods,Temple Cars Of India

In Bhakti, Hinduism on March 30, 2013 at 17:58

Hinduism identifies Gods with   Human Life so much that Gods have Parents,Brothers, Sisters,Children and Family Life.

The Vedas declare that the Reality is Nameless Formless.

However Hinduism encourages worship Gods in Idol for, and attribution of Human properties are allowed as they are a tool to Realize God or Self.

For details please read my post ‘Gods have name and Form, Yes and No’

Birthdays of God , like Janmastami for Lord Krishna, Arudra Darisanam of Lord Siva, Pooram Nakshatra For Andal, Marriages Uthiram  Nakshatra for Lord Siva and Parvati are all celebrated with grandeur.

On such special occasions the Deity is bedecked with jewellery,  Flowers,  and taken around in a Chariot around the city on a fixed Route.

They are fixed with lighting arrangements, Music troupe leads with veda Mantras recital.

“Temple cars are chariots used to carry representations of Hindu gods. The car is usually used on festival days called Ther Thiruvizha (தேர் திருவிழா) usually happens once in a year, where many people gathered around the temple and pull the cart.

ThiruvarurSrivilliputhurTirunelveli in Tamil Nadu and Puri, in Odisha, host some of the largest annual temple car festivals.

One of the very old and ancient festivals that often mentioned in the devotional hymns of saints like ( Tirugnanasambandar and Sundarar) and many Tamil literature, usually held during the summer between March and April months of every year, lasts more than 25 days. The main attraction of the festival is the procession of the great temple car of Thiruvarur (in Tamil: ஆழித் தேர்). This great chariot is said to the biggest one of its type in size and height. It is 96 feet (29 m) tall and weights more than 300 tons.[1] The size of the largest temple cars inspired the Anglo-Indian term Juggernaut (fromJagganath), signifying a tremendous, virtually unstoppable force or phenomenon.

As of 2004, Tamil Nadu had 515 wooden carts of which 79 need repairs. Annamalaiyar TempleTiruvannamalaiChidambaram Natarajar Temple are some of the temples that possess huge wooden chariots for procession each. In particular, Natarajar temple celebrates the chariot festival twice in a year one at summer (Aani Thirumanjanam (June- July)) and another at winter (Marghazhi Thiruvaadhirai (in December – January )). Lord Krishna of Udupi has five temple cars, namely Brahma ratha (biggest), Madya ratha (medium), kinyo (small), and silver and gold rathas.(wiki)

Man’s Penis Stolen, While Asleep

In Interesting and funny on July 26, 2012 at 20:43

Man whose penis was Stolen

Fei Lin whose Penis was Stolen

Really Strange.

I will narrate one real-life incident.

This has happened in my native city, Srivilliputhur.

I was around 15 then.

In a prominent locality a man had cut his balls off by himself and was seen shouting at his wife ‘is this what you…..?’

Later we came to know that he caught his wife with a man in Bed and this was his reaction!

Normal Men would have cut the other man’s.

It takes all kinds of people to make up the world.

Story:

Thieves stole a man’s penis while he slept, according to police.

Fei Lin, 41, of the Niqiao village near Wenling City, in east China’s Zhejiang province, told police he was asleep when the thieves burst into his room and put a bag over his head, according to CEN/EUROPICS and as reported in the Daily Star.

“They put something over my head and pulled down my trousers and then they ran off,” Lin said. “I was so shocked I didn’t feel a thing – then I saw I was bleeding and my penis was gone.”

Police believe the attackers were jealous lovers of several local women whom Lin was having affairs with, the Austrian Times reported. Lin denied taking part in any infidelity.

Emergency workers and police searched for Lin’s anatomy but turned up nothing, according to TNT Magazine. The penis thieves are nowhere to be found, but police said they’re looking for the jealous lovers.

A Great Saint and a Poetess who enriched the Tamil  Language by her Tiruppavai and other literary works is the presiding Deity of Srivilliputhur.

The Gopuram (Temple Tower) of the Temple is the emblem of The Government of Tamil Nadu.

Well, you can not expect respect and regard from the people who married widow, called Tamil as a language of the Barbarians , who decried Idol worships but worshipped in idol form as a ritual and whose birth day is celebrated after his death!

His disciple(when it suits him) is a man who has illegal relationship and an offspring, which and whom whom he flaunts publicly.

Here is man who ran away from a prostitute’s house without paying money, after enjoying her services by the back door.(Vana Vasam-by Kannadasan).

What can you expect from them?”

Manonmaniyam Sundaranar University has included a portion in its Syllabus for Students of Degree which states  that the Great Tamil Saint Andal was a Deavadasi and Periyaazvar begot her by Illicit liaison.

A King  VallabhaDevan lusted after her and sent her presents.
