Gavaskar’s Amoral Justification On IPL Match Fixing ‘Slip Is Showing’

In cricket on June 2, 2013 at 12:56

Sunil Gavaskar‘s justification of his ‘Silence’ on IPL Corruption,Match Fixing and On N.Srinivasan is bizarre to say the least.

Sunil Manohar Gavskar, Cricketer, India.

Legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Pic/MiD DAY Archives

His arguments run on two points.

1.His Contract with BCCI is for the ‘Exclusivity’, for his non-appearance in other Channels.

He says he was being paid by the BCCI from the Age of 12, when he started playing for Schools and the difference, he rues, is only the quantum of Money.

Mr.Gavaskar, nobody denied that you have been on contract with BCCI, nor your remuneration.

The issue, in case you chose to forget, I can not believe this for Gavaskar is highly cerebral and loquacious, is precisely that!

That of Conflict of interest.

When you work for someone, you seem to be working from the age of 12 for The BCCI, you can not take another assignment which is in conflict with what you are engaged in.That’s what exactly you have been doing scrupulously.

It is natural for you not to talk about the on-goings in IPL or BCCI.

That’s what is meant by your ‘Silence’, not anything else.

“There are reasons given about why I am ‘silent’, and the main reason is that my ‘silence’ has been bought by the TV contract that the BCCI has with me. Firstly, now that the BCCI has its own production house, it is well within its rights to contract those who they want to, just like other sports channels have contracted some other players to do commentary for them.

The reason why such contracts are done is to obtain exclusivity from the contracted entity so that he/ she does not appear on a rival channel and that is why good money is paid to the former players. That is also why I have not appeared on another TV channel excepting the news channel that has a contract with me.

Contract issue
If all those who are reporting on the episodes for their papers or TV channels cannot write for a rival paper or appear on another TV channel, then how can I appear on a news channel other than the one I’m contracted to? And since I don’t appear on the other channels, does it mean I am being silent?

Just like every player, I have been directly or indirectly contracted to BCCI since the age of 12, when I first played for Mumbai schools. I was then given one rupee per day if I remember correctly by the Mumbai Cricket Association. So throughout my playing career, I was under contract with the BCCI either directly or through its affiliate, the Mumbai Cricket Association. It is just that the quantum of the fees has changed from the 1 rupee that I first got when I played for Mumbai schools and that is thought as being the reason for my so called silence.

During the time that I played, I did speak up for the playing fraternity to ensure that their rights were looked after. I could have been dropped, but I did speak out for what I felt was right for my playing fraternity, and, believe me, playing for India was more important than any monetary inducement and yet I did not shy away from speaking my mind.”

When and what was the issue you spoke about that could have forced the BCCI drop you?

Exactly what happened between you and Bishen Singh Bedi, you and Kapil Dev are known to people who follow  not only your game but your  Game!

2.”It’s up to Srini
So whether Mr Srinivasan should stay or step aside while the probe committee does its job is a moral issue, and it is for him to take a call on that. That has been my stand, and since it is not one that resonates with most TV channels and the print media, I am accused of being silent.

It is for the BCCI and Mr Srinivasan to take a call on the issue facing Indian cricket today because it is a moral issue. It is not for me to advise them what to do as everybody else seems to be doing, and if that is taken as being bought then good luck to democracy in our country.’

By the same token, let the batsmen or bowler do what they do.

Why do you comment?

Because it is your job as a commentator.

Similarly is it not your responsibility as a Legendary Batsman of India, who is regarded as an Icon by Cricketers and people of this Country, to speak out against Corruption and Moral turpitude?

What exactly did you do in Lalith Modi’s case?

“The police agencies are doing their job so the criminality or otherwise will be established by them. As for the morality part, it is a free world and to each his own. What maybe immoral to one may not be immoral to another, and as long as it is within the framework of the laws that govern our country, nobody should be forced to say or do anything against their will is what I believe in.’

Yes, it is a Free country, every one has their opinions,

But the point is people show themselves when a Moral issue is involved.

Mr.Gavaskar,your slip is showing.

Match Fixing BCCI Power Struggle Sharad Pawar Modi

In cricket on May 31, 2013 at 07:56

What started as a near discard Cricketer fixing matches in IPL, the affair is turning out to be a can of worms,

Sharad Pawar and Lalith Modi.
Pawar and Modi

Cricketer,Bookies,Parties, Parties, Dons, even Murder.

new facts have emerged that the match fixing is not limited to India nIPL.

It seems to have infected the  SriLanka Premier League (SLPL),Bangladesh Premier League.

As I noted in the earlier posts, the reticence of the ICC and the stubborn refusal of the BBCI refusing to quit, though he has appointed a committee to go into the Match fixing(the judges appointed seem to raise doubts) and the initial quiet acquiescence of the powerful BCCI Board and the Political bigwigs indicate that the IPL Spot fixing wide ramification.

To understand this,  a look at the BCCI power struggle will be in order.

It all started with I.S.Bindra and Jagmohan Dalmiya joining hands to capture BCCI power.

IS Bindra became Secretary and Dalmiya the President of BCCI.

Dalmiya became the President of ICC.

Bindra felt betrayed as the deal between him and Dalmiya was that Bindra get ICC President ship.

Anti Dalmiya group was formed.

Bindra brought in the Maharashtra Political heavy weight as a candidate for BCCI President-ship.

Bindra defeated Shard Pawar by casting his’casting vote’ after disqualifying rival factions in Maharashtra.

Pawar formed his own group with N.Srnivasaan, Lalith Modi I.S.Bindra and came to power.

Srinivasan rose from being a Treasurer to Presidency of BCCI.

Pawar supported Srinivasan when he got CSK Farchise stating that ‘ there was no conflict of interest and it was a conscious decision!”

Srinivasan went after Lalith Modi, the then IPL Commissioner, fixed him.

Srinivasan,Sharad Power and Dalmiya formed the Troika.

After IPL imbroglio of Lalith Modi, Pawar has been with Srinivasan till now.

Now Pawa,r Modi and Shasahank Manohar are ina separate Group.( Shashank Manohar was the interim IPL Commissioner after Lalith Modi affair)

What happened in between  Sinivasan and Pawar in the meanwhile?

Why has Pawar come out against Srinivasna now?

Answer is IPL Money .

Dhaka: The International Cricket Council is probing allegations of match-fixing in Bangladeshi cricket with former national captain Mohammad Ashraful among those being questioned, officials said on Thursday.

ICC anti-corruption inspectors were investigating allegations of wrongdoing during a match in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a spokesman for the Bangladesh Cricket Board said.

“The allegations involve a match between Dhaka Gladiators and Chittagong Kings in the second edition of the BPL,” spokesman Jalal Yunus said.

The allegations are the latest to hit Bangladeshi cricket including the BPL, which was launched in 2012 in emulation of neighbouring India’s lucrative Twenty20 tournament.”

n Mumbai, his MP daughter Supriya Sule reacted similarly to reports appearing in a section of the media that the family held 16.22 per cent shares in City Corporation, a Pune-based construction company, which unsuccessfully bid for the IPL Pune team in March.

The Congress, however, maintained a neutral stance saying Mr. Pawar was a “valuable ally” but deflected questions on the allegations against him.

Speaking to journalists here, Mr. Pawar said, “Neither I nor any of my family members are directly or indirectly involved in any IPL team.”

He said the board of City Corporation (in which he and his family have a 16.22 per cent shareholding) had taken a unanimous decision not to be involved in the IPL bidding process. “The Managing Director, Mr. A. Deshpande was eager to be associated with the bidding process so the board allowed him to do so in his individual capacity. He was allowed to use the name of City Corporation.”

“In [the Board's] resolution, it was made absolutely clear that there is no direct or indirect involvement of any shareholder other then Mr. Deshpande personally,” he said. The City Corporation made a failed bid for the Pune IPL team which was won by the Sahara Group.

BCCI Board List Why They Keep Quiet IPL Fixing

In cricket on May 28, 2013 at 08:52

N.Srinivasan, the tainted President of BCII whose son-in-law has been arrested for betting and suspected match fixing, brazenly roughshod the BCCI  board and declared that he will not resign and the Board kept quiet meekly.

BCCI,India

N.Srinivasan,President,BCCI

He also stated that the Board was with him , all of them!.

Who are the members of the BCCI and who forms the BCCI Working Committee?

List towards the end of the Post.

One might notice they belong to various Political Parties, some of them bitter enemies in Public.

Why haven’t they taken Srinivasan On?

1.Approaching Elections. Funds needed for all the parties.

2.Quid pro Quo.Every one of them have indulged in Corruption at some tie or another.

3.A quick look at he Franchisees will enlighten you who they are, what cases, corruption, charges were , are on them.

4. Lalith Modi Affair, many knots unraveled, skeletons may tumble if Srinivasan is touched.

5.Mumbai Big Wig Politician with Sports connection made slight noises ,though through his mouth piece and reversed it.

People know he can never be away when Sports Money is involved.

.The silence is deafening. Truly impressivepolitical heavy artillery, cutting across party lines, form the leading lights among BCCImembers. But they are proving to be duds. For, not one of them has publicly called for the resignation of N Srinivasan on moral grounds despite monumental evidence of him lying about the role of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappanin Chennai Super Kings.

Among the 30 men who constitute the board that runs Indian cricket are two people – Narendra Modi and Farooq Abdullah — who either are or have been chief ministers of their state. Modi, in fact, has ambitions to lead the country. There are also several present and former Union ministers – Arun JaitleyRajeev Shukla, Jyotiraditya Scindia and C P Joshi. Then, there is Anurag Thakur, Lok Sabha MP whose father, Prem Kumar Dhumal, was CM of Himachal Pradesh. Ranjib Biswal is a former MP and his father, Basanta Kumar Biswal, was once deputy CM of Odisha.

In private, several of these worthies claim they have told or indicated to BCCI chief N Srinivasan that he should quit following his son-in-law’s arrest for allegedly being in league with bookies, but he has single-handedly defied them all. The question increasingly being asked in cricketing circles and elsewhere is – why are these seasoned politicians silent? Can’t they see that what’s at stake isn’t just a post but the faith of a billion Indians in cricket?

Three of the biggies listed – Modi, Jaitley and Thakur – are from the BJP. They were shouting from rooftops demanding the resignation of Pawan Kumar Bansal because his kin was found involved in shady deals and that of Ashwani Kumar for an impropriety in vetting and modifying a CBI report, but when it comes to Srinivasan, they are mum. Isn’t this double standards?

Match Fixing Indian Foul Play Award TO CSK

In cricket on May 27, 2013 at 09:12

N.Srinivasan , the BCCI President refused to quit saying he has done no wrong, even after his son-in-law Gurunath Meyappan was arrested for contacts with the bookies and his confession he bet on the IPL matches .

Following is the full text of BCCI President N Srinivasan‘s statement at the press conference on Sunday.

The last few days have been difficult for the BCCI and for me as the President. You will appreciate that these days have also been very difficult for me as a father and as father-in-law. However, I sit here as the President of the BCCI and put aside all personal feelings. I can assure you that I will not shirk from my duties.

However difficult it may be, the BCCI will act without fear and favour to investigate and, if the circumstances warrant, punish any player and match officials, team management or franchise that have breached BCCI or IPL regulation.

The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit report on the allegation of spot-fixing by the Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and Amit Singh will be issued on time. The BCCI will continue to offer assistance to the police and if the inquries bring any suspicion on any other players.

With regard to Mr Gurunath M, the legal process has already started and he’s facing police investigation. The BCCI has already taken the decision to provisionally suspend him from all activities in cricket and particularly from all involvement within CSK franchise.

The disciplinary procedure under the operational rules shall be initiated and the commission including at least one member who is entirely independent to the BCCI will be formed to adjudicate whether Mr Gurunath is in breach of rules that require all persons subject to the operational rules not to act in any way which would have an adverse effect on the image or the reputation of the BCCI or the IPL which would otherwise bring the entity into disrepute.

The management of the other franchise, the Rajasthan Royals, will also be subject to same procedure. I am not part of this commission and I will not play any role in its appointment, deliberations or decision.

If anyone is found in breach or liable under the operational rules … the operation rules provide a number of potential sanctions ranging from fine to suspensions and in the extreme the termination of the franchise.

There has been a lot of media comment on Clause 11.3 of the franchise agreement and whether Mr Gurunath is an owner of the franchise. It is for this commission to look into this.”

If Gurunath is not connected to IPL, BCCI, why is he suspended by the  BCCI and from what?

In a release issued on Sunday morning, the Indian board said: “The BCCI has taken note of the detention by Mumbai Police of Gurunath Meiyappan, who is a member of the team management of Chennai Super Kings. As an accredited team official, Mr Meiyappan is subject to the provisions of the IPL operational rules and the BCCI anti-corruption code for participants. Pending further investigations and any subsequent hearing by the BCCI disciplinary committee or the IPL code of behaviour committee, Mr Meiyappan has been suspended by the BCCI.”

IPL Fair Play Awards.

IPL Match fixing meyappan's IPL Pass.

Gurunath Meyappan’s IPL Pass

IPL site removed the name of Chennai Super Kings from the  Fair Play Award List in its site yesterday.

Yet CSK was awarded the IPL fair Play Award yesterday, after CSK lost its Final Match to Mumbai Indians!

CSK’s Loss in the Finals:

“It will look ridiculous if CSK wins’and the Trophy is presented to Srinivasan by the BCCI Charman Rajiv Shukla.

So, lose the match convincingly to enable the golden goose alive”

Was thet the instruction to CSK?

Looks so, considering the way Dhoni sent in Bravo instead of him coming in at the crease when wickets were falling, the ridiculous, almost voluntary gifting away of wickets by the CSK.

Srinivasan seems to be emerging as the Sonia Gandhi of BCCI!
